Memories
I received the GoPro HD video camera last night and spent 2 hours unpacking it and trying all the different mounting attachments. Very cool, my family thinks I am nuts...I agree. This thing can even be mounted upside down if needed and you can push a button so the video is right side up...very convenient. I will be giving it a test run this weekend on my first century from my house in Trumbull to Mohawk mountain in central CT. This is a interesting ride, I did 2/3 of it last week. On the way out it seems to be more downhill than uphill so I was thinking the return would be a killer a a lot slower. Well the return trip was a snap and I flew...I guess I either have sense of up or down or I'm getting in better shape and the steady incline just seems like a downhill. I hope day 3 of The Joy Ride feels the same. Videos to be posted soon.

Day 12: July 19th: Cedar City - Panguitch 59 miles.. big climb then DONE YEA
4500 feet of climbing in 18 miles. 4.1% grade average.. the final push... the big one.. then, a sweet long joy ride into panguitch and completion. 59 miles. WE ARE DONE!! Then, we get in the car and turn around and laugh as we drive back over that big bastard and head to Baker (?) for the evening.

We can taste the sweet victory now boys.. 59 miles long climb day and decants. Gentle stuff. 1 day to go!

Confirmed at the Silver Jack.. email back.. aok. couple of passes today, but long long downhill towards Baker at days end. 60 miles

Great Basin National Park best in country for stargazing!
This is a shot I took on RT 50, "The Lonliest Road" through NV. The mountains in the distance flank the Smokey Valley about mid section of the state. This is a bicyclist and motorcyclist dream land - little traffic, vast landscapes, well-paved roads.
Our wildlife neighbors include mountain lions & bobcats (very reclusive and hardly seen), elk, mule deer, antelope, bighorn sheep, coyote, badgers, occasional marmots, at least 200 bird species, rabbits, lizards and a great variety of vegetation.

Of course we have creatures that startle – rattlesnakes, black widow & brown recluse spiders, and scorpions. Our domesticated neighbors are cattle, horses, and sheep. A few of the people here are relatively domesticated as well…
The vegetation includes many wildflowers (Spring the best viewing season), many sage varieties (smell our sage perfume early in the AM), grasses, Pinion Pine (pine nuts were a staple of Native peoples and are still harvested today), Juniper, pine forests, and 3-4,000 year-old Bristle Cone pines.
