Day 7: Austin to Eureka

Austin is a town of 370 people but is the county seat of Landers County.  A small town with one main street and 5 churches.  They only food store is the Chevron Station but there are several cafes which surprised me in many ways.  We had a very fun dinner of pizza along with shots and beers at the Owl Club, while being entertained by Doug on the guitar.  The owner Mary finally told him to put it away if he wasn't going to sing.  We then went to the juke box and listened to a great collection of rock and roll.  I think everyone finally got some sleep after this hard day.
There was no start time this morning as the route today is a bit subdued compared to yesterday.  The pleasant surprise was the breakfast at the International Cafe across the street from the motel.  The sign says International but the only reference is Serbian Christmas on Jan. 7th.????   I will say this was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had.  Nothing special but done very well.  This has been one of the pleasures of this ride.  Correcting some preconceived notions about places.
Climbing out of town was nice as the weather was perfect.  Three summits and then a long slight downhill for 30 plus miles.  This was compliments of Nevada DOT.  Quite possibly the best biking road ever.  Not a seam in the pavement for 30 miles.   We seem to be bringing good luck to this part of Nevada as they are getting some much needed rain.  It is coming in the guise of thunderstorms along with lightening, and raindrops the size of small animals.  Lucky we made it to town before it started.  The forecast is for more of the same for the next few days so we'll see what the morning brings.
Eureka is the county seat of Eureka County and has 670 people.  Quick laundry run and then dinner at, yes again, the Owl Club Cafe.  Tomorrow should be a day similar to today but three passes all close to 7000 ft and finishing in Ely (elee).
